Scripture and Pandemic

In addition to talking with congregants to discuss their lives during the Coronavirus pandemic, I also asked members of OHOLF to share pieces of scripture that have helped them to get through this difficult time. Below is some of the scripture that the Oberlin House of the Lord Fellowship shared with me, as well as a clever biblical acronym for COVID-19:

Joshua 1:9 (NIV)

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.

Hebrews 11:1 (NKJV)

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep.

The Armor of God

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. Psalm 91 (NIV)

*If you are not familiar with the naming system of scripture, here is an example: 

Book Chapter:Verse (Version) = Genesis 1:1-2 (KJV) 

1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. 2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. 

In the example above Genesis 1:1-2 (KJV) can be read as: Book of Genesis, Chapter 1, Verse 1 through 2, King James Version.
