A fairly self-explanatory meme, this user highlights a salient point about the front-end workers during this pandemic. It also emphasizes the unique nature of this crisis, and questions of how power is defined when the world’s population is put at risk. How do the roles of a CEO vs. a grocery worker take charge of each other during a pandemic?

This was the first meme I came across that blatantly spoke to the topic of privilege in the pandemic. Based on someone’s position, whether it be racial, socioeconomic, gendered, or another factor, some people may have different perspectives on the “free time” we have been afforded during this period of quarantine. I have heard many people expressing quarantine as a time of self-improvement, which is perfectly fine, but it’s equally important to recognize the numerous complications this pandemic causes for many others. This topic is especially pertinent to the facebook group’s primary constituents: college students. Far too many people are leaving campus and returning to potentially unstable households where they may have to take on time-consuming roles. Quarantine can be a time of skill-development and growth, but should also be recognized for the struggle it can create. 

This image displays a radical act of selflessness by an elderly woman, and not only highlights the value of life, but the unfortunate reality that some people are giving their lives since there are not enough available ventilators. 

As a current sophomore in college, I’ve seen a particular lamentation for current college seniors whose graduation ceremonies have been cancelled. Further, many have expressed anxiety for the job market they will be entering in the coming months. I can only imagine how a vast majority of these seniors are relying on job opportunities for support after completing college, and the long-term challenge it poses to everyone in liminal spaces.
